A hazmat survey is a more inclusive survey where we inspect the home or building for many hazardous materials. This is important to do because there are many hazardous materials that can cause very serious health risks. The most obvious one is asbestos, which is commonly the concern for most contractors or homeowners. As there are many other materials at risk of being exposed during a renovation or a demolition of a building it is crucial that you have a hazardous materials survey done before you start in on your project.
Hazardous materials assessed in this survey are as listed below:
- Asbestos
- Silica
- Mercury
- Lead
- Hantavirus
- Arsenic
- Radioactive Materials
- PCBs (Polychlorinated Biphenyls)
- Mold
- ODS (Ozone Depleting Substances)
- Formaldehyde
- Oil Tanks

Maybe you aren’t familiar with some of these hazardous materials, but these are something that we should take seriously and not ignore because of unfamiliarity with them. You can give us a call to learn more about how these materials could cause potentially harmful health problems, and how you can be protected from them. WorkSafeBC has provided webpages, manuals, ECPs (Exposure Control Plan) and much more information on all of these harmful materials. After knowing what is in your home you then can take the necessary steps to protect your family, neighbours and employees.
We Test Inc. is a local environmental consulting company designed to help you discover the potential risks in your home. Our primary service is hazmat surveys, so you can be guaranteed we will help you get to the bottom of the risks in your home and make solutions so you can carry on with your project. As there can be hazardous materials in all types of buildings we perform this survey in not only residential but also commercial properties.
In 2017 WorkSafeBC started an asbestos enforcement initiative to ensure that the finding, removal and clean up of asbestos would be done properly. This was done to start making a real effort to start lowering the number of work place related deaths of asbestos as it is the largest workplace related killer.
The efforts to prevent workplace related diseases and health problems do not stop with asbestos, because of the known hazardous materials listed above we are able to limit exposure through this survey. Find out the risks before you get started.
